Issuance Top Of Amerindian Affairs Agenda For 2010

-Minister Sukhai

Georgetown, December 30, 2009

Government has been working towards the inclusiveness of Amerindians in society and as such the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs will be working to ensure Amerindians and residents of hinterland communities receive their birth certificate.

Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai at the Ministry’s year-end press conference today emphasized that the Ministry will be working towards improving its services offered to patrons of the agency. The support for issuance of birth certificate is a priority for the Ministry.

She highlighted that adults in hinterland communities must be in possession of birth certificates.

“When we visit communities you can see the generation gap that exist, with that gap many adults still do not have birth certificates,” the Minister noted.
To foster the process the Minister noted that the Ministry will be working with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry responsible for the General Register Office.
