In addition to the significant developments in Amerindian affairs in 2009, Government will upgrade the Amerindian hostel and introduce more services at the Princes Street, Georgetown venue.

“The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is always pleased to support Amerindian development which is becoming more visible in the changing appearance of the communities,” Minister Sukhai said.

She said that the commitment and dedication of the PPP/C administration is seen in the delivery of health care, education, and assistance for income generating activities among numerous others.

She noted that the performance of Hinterland students attending Secondary schools in Georgetown has significantly increased over the past few years and that more students are being offered scholarships.

With this in mind Minister Sukhai said, Government has invested a large sum of money to construct a dormitory at Liliendaal, for Amerindian students attending schools in Georgetown.
